The Tachinidae are a large and variable family of true flies within the insect order Diptera, with more than 8,200 known species and many more to be discovered. Over 1,300 species have been described in North America alone. Insects in this family commonly are called tachinid flies or simply tachinids. M. Avcl and K. Kara (2002) Phytoparasitica 30(4):361-364 Tachinidae Parasitoids of Traumatocampa ispartaensis from Turkey Mustafa Avcl 1 and Kenan Kara 2 Tachinid parasitoids of Traumatocampaispartaensis Do~anlar & Avcl (Lepidoptera, Thaume- topoeidae), which was found to be a new species, were collected from the cedar forests around Isparta-Kaplda~. Tachinidae is a diverse, cosmopolitan family of true flies currently with approximately 8,600 described species (O'Hara, 2013). Of these, about 900 have been found in Europe (PaPe et al., 2015) and 61 species have been recorded for the Maltese archipelago (ebejer, 2011). Tachinid Tachinidae are one of the most diverse and ecologically important families in the order Diptera. As parasitoids, they are important natural enemies in most terrestrial ecological communities, particularly as natural enemies of larval Lepidoptera. Despite their diversity and ecological impact, relatively little is known about the evolution and ecology of tachinids, and what is known tends to be Tachinidae Oestridae Brian M. It comprises 180 tachinid species reared from 310 arthropod hosts belonging to seven insect orders and one chilopod order.
