of the Moon in its various phases are presented together with three large lunar maps. The effect of libration is shown together with names of surface features that are not in use today (Figure 5). Eustachio Divini (1610-1685) and Francesco Grimaldi (1613-1663) Moon maps were published in 1649 and 1651 respectively. The lettered crater names included in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature, and therefore in this atlas, are found in the definitive source "NASA Catalogue of Lunar Nomenclature" (NASA Reference Publication 1097). Over the decades, many informal names have been used on the Moon and some IAU-approved names have been officially changed. The images on the front show the topography of the near (left) and far (right) side of the Moon. Blue colors indicate lower surfaces, while red and white are higher surfaces. One of the surprising parts of lunar topography is that the crust on the far side of the Moon is much higher than on the near side. This image is a composite tof many Lunar Recon-naissance Orbiter shots taken at di˜erent phases to accentuate the topography. Catharin a Theophilus Moon Map PDF?
