To design "FreeBSD Mastery: Jails" I need to look at the existing jail management tools. jailme - a modified version of jexec with more sanity checking. Is setuid, lets normal users run jails. Also ezjail for many years is jail management de facto and it is well known in BSD world ( Thanks to handbook ). P.S: there is still Warden Sometimes, Gentoo FreeBSD's @system is broken. Please get latest information from "Depends on" of bug #462580 . Gentoo FreeBSD was a Gentoo system based on the FreeBSD kernel. Luckily, it is quick and easy to set up a 32bit jail on a 64bit FreeBSD. Here is an example, installing a FreeBSD 9.0 i386 jail on FreeBSD 9.0 amd64. This recipe goes for any jail, by the way. Only the fetch downloading the content is different. Many jails are established by linking directories between the jail and host to save disk space. This article is a sort of personal notebook where I summarize what I learned about jails. It would be frequently updated as I learn more. Assumptions The host is running FreeBSD 11.2/amd64 on ZFS. Each jail has a separate root dataset under /vm on the host. From outside the jail, the program jexec may run a program from inside the jail: % jexec myjail program Archiving a jail % ezjail-admin stop myjail % ezjail-admin archive myjail % ls /usr/jails/ezjail-archives/ See also. Jail Facility - mentions ezjail alternative qjail; poudriere - used to easily make packages from ports inside a jail References CBSD is an additional layer of abstraction for the jail(8) framework, bhyve hypervisor, XEN project hypervisor and some components of FreeBSD OS.. The additional functionality CBSD provides uses the following; . vnet (VIMAGE) zfs; racct/rctl; ipfw; pf/ipfw/ipfilter; carp; hastd; vale; vxlan; Although CBSD aims to be the most user-friendly application (for example, using bsdconfig-style dialogs [Bug 181794] jexec(8) runs commands in Jails without taking into account of the Jail's FIB. bugzilla-noreply Sun, 03 Dec 2017 01:21:56 -0800 This post assumes that you've read the original post on VNET Jail HowTo.
