2.1 What is new and what has changed in the 2018 ESC/ESH Arterial Hypertension Guidelines? Changes in recommendations 2013 2018 Diagnosis Diagnosis Office BP is recommended for screening and diagnosis of hypertension. It is recommended to base the diagnosis of hypertension on: • Repeated office BP measurements; or • Out-of-office BP In comparison to the ACC/AHA guidelines, 8 the ESC/ESH guidelines did not lower threshold BP values for the definition of hypertension. This decision was mainly based on the results of the HOPE-3 trial 9 and a lack of epidemiological evidence justifying a change in the definition of hypertension in favour of lower values. Recently, a German community-dwelling real-life analysis revealed 2018 ESC/ESH Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension 1. 2018 ESC/ESH Guideline for the management of arterial hypertension Dr. Julfikar Saif Resident, Phase A Department of oncology, BSMMU Violet Unit, Internal Medicine 2. The 2018 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and European Society of Hypertension (ESH) Guidelines for treatment of hypertension were presented at the ESC Congress. The definition of hypertension was unchanged as compared with the one in the 2013 Guidelines, with SBP ≥140 mmHg and/or DBP ≥90 mmHg. For diagnosis, in addition to office BP We would like to show you a description here but the site won't allow us. The 2018 ESC/ESH guidelines recommend BP levels < 140/90 mmHg as the first objective of pharmacological treatment in all hypertensives aged between 18 and 65 years [ 1 ]. If the treatment is well tolerated, BP values should be further lowered with a suggested SBP target between 130 and 120 mmHg and a DBP target between 80 and 70 mmHg. A first look at the new European Guidelines for the treatment of high blood pressure (BP) was presented at the European Society of Hypertension meeting in Barcelona on 9 June 2018. These long-awaited guidelines have been jointly developed by clinicians representing the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Society of The ESC/ESH guidelines continue to emphasise on the importance of reducing blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg for all patients. They also recommend that systolic blood pressure (SBP) for patients aged under 65 should be reduced to between 120 and 129 mmHg. Treatment threshold remains at an SBP of 140 mmHg. 2018 ESC/ESH Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension - Task Force Laurent Stephane 1- Financial Declaration A - Direct Personal payment: Speaker fees, Honoraria, Consultancy, Advisory Board fees, Investigator, Committee Member, etc. from healthcare industry. 2018 ESC/ESH Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension 10.1016/j.rec.2018.12.004 Rev Esp Cardiol. 2019;72:160 Subscribe to our newsletter View newsletter history Publish in Revista Española de Cardiología Instructions for authors Submit an article Ethics in publishing Information for reviewers Frequently asked questions Last articles Òscar Miró, Xavier Rosselló, Víctor Gil, Francisco Javier Martín-Sánchez, Pere Llorens, Pablo Herrero, Javier Jacob, María Luisa López-Grima, Cristina Gil, Francisco Javier Lucas Imbernón, José Manuel Garrido, María José Pérez-Durá, María Pilar López-Díez, Fernando Richard, Héctor Bueno, Stuart J.
