Automatic frees yer mind for other tasks. Most guys competing for money will run automatics. Manuals are pretty much indestructible. Automatics NEED regular maintenance when pushed by crawling or racing. A manual will run forever with oil changes every 5 years and NEVER let you down. You should be telling US which is better since you have both. 1. Does it have the same top speed as a manual. 2. Does the Auto rev higher at say 70mph as opposed to 70mph in the manual. 3. How does hill decent work in auto. Because the manual from what ive seen so far can be selected in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd (which alters decent speed). A major upside to manual vehicles is that their fuel consumption is more efficient than most automatics of the same make and model, giving you more kilometres per litre. It's also easier to free the vehicle if it's bogged. A downside to manuals is that the clutch won't last forever and it has more wearable parts than an automatic. Off-road racing enthusiasts almost always choose automatic boxes 2. They offer a different response off the line but allow the driver to focus more on technical aspects of the racing and crossing the line in first place. Only in very specific off-road classes is manual preferred or required 2. If you plan on driving on rocky faces a lot, an Manual transmission engines are less complicated, lighter and have more gears than automatic transmission engines. The combination of these factors means that a manual transmission will save drivers 5-15% on fuel consumption when compared to automatic transmissions. I've found that manual is WAY more fun off-road, but auto's (typically) do a better job in the technical stuff (crawling, rocks, etc). Manuals seem better (for me) in the mud (easier to control, or enable wheel spin) and fire road type off roading (anything that will keep your speed above a crawl). In conclusion, Benjamin prefers the manual over the automatic because he enjoys the challenge and the connection he feels between his car and the road. Driving a stick off-road is more fun if you plan to push boundaries or take the trail slowly and steadily. He says a manual has some drawbacks to trekking trails. Though, since he can break the Off-Roading - Manual vs. Automatic Transmissions While off-roading in an automatic, you have to worry about torque converter flash rpm, stall rpm, shift point rpm and vehicle speed, vacuum and cooling lines, tranny pan leaks, loss of fluid, overheating, plugged coolers, uncovered sump pickups, burned fluid, and so much else. You can off-road in an automatic. It has some benefits, is easier to drive, and is better for going very slowly or starting on a hill. On the other hand, a manual is more expensive, not as fun, does not allow engine braking, and does not have good fuel mileage. Today, we will discuss some of the main differences between a manual and an The manual low range is not low enough at 20% whereas the auto is infinitely variable. I have proven many times that my auto is superior to manual when offroad. The main advantage is that you can crawl with an auto and not stall; the main disadvantage of auto is that you have limited downhill engine braking. PS - welcome to the forum! I Want Candy! I learned to drive off road in an automatic FJ80 and later an automatic Jeep Cherokee (XJ), however, most my street cars were manuals. A few years ago I got an XTerra with a 6-speed manual. I found that driving a manual off road is a very different exper
